Erdemir Laboratory at the Cleveland Clinic (http://www.lerner.ccf.org/bme/erdemir/lab/) has three positions for an upcoming project on the biomechanics of multi-layer tissue structures of musculoskeletal extremities with emphasis on computational modeling & simulation. The positions will initially be for a duration of one year with the possible extension to three years. The goals of the activity are to collect comprehensive biomechanical data through cadaver experimentation and human subjects testing in order to provide open and freely accessible databases of tissue mechanical and anatomical properties, and to develop and disseminate detailed and reduced models of multi-layer tissue structures of musculoskeletal extremities, all with proven utility in surgical simulations.
Please submit your CV along with a cover letter and contact information for three references to Ahmet Erdemir, erdemira@ccf.org. Review of candidates will start immediately. Desired qualifications for individual positions are based on anticipated duties and are provided below.
Project Scientist / Research Associate
Job title will be based on candidate’s experience and credentials.- PhD degree in biomechanics focusing on the synergistic use of experimentation and simulations
- background in mechanical engineering or a related discipline
- experience in finite element analysis (specifically with FEBio)
- familiarity to modeling techniques relevant to surgical simulation and medical training
- illustrated capacity to conduct experimentation on human subjects and on cadaver specimens
- capability to program in Python
- a publication record relevant to desired experience level
- project management expertise preferably supported by previous post-doctoral experience
- familiarity to and compliance with open source development
Principal Research Engineer / Senior Research Engineer
Job title will be based on candidate’s experience and credentials.- MSc degree in mechanical engineering or relevant discipline with special emphasis on the mechanics of biological structures (specifically skin, fat, and muscle)
- theoretical knowledge of nonlinear solid mechanics and constitutive modeling
- experience in finite element analysis (specifically with FEBio)
- experience in tissue characterization
- capability to work with cadaver specimens
- capacity to develop and assemble instrumentation
- capacity to program in Python
- familiarity to scientific imaging and image analysis
- familiarity to and compliance with open source development
Senior Research Engineer / Research Engineer
Job title will be based on candidate’s experience and credentials.- BSc degree in computer science or relevant discipline applicable to physics-based simulations
- theoretical knowledge of model reduction strategies, optimization, and probabilistic analysis
- experience in programming (Python and C++)
- capability to develop scripts for pre-/post-processing of computational models
- capability to develop plug-ins for finite element analysis software (specifically for FEBio)
- experience with surgical simulation software (specifically SOFA)
- capability to customize free and open source software libraries, e.g., ITK, VTK, SciPy
- familiarity to web-based database development & management
- familiarity to and compliance with open source development
