The award program has been organized to reward the best open source contributions of 2024. All contributions were eligible for application: it could be an open-source plugin, a pull-request on GitHub, a video, a tutorial or documentation pages.
The SOFA Award 2020 strongly motivated me to dig into the code of SOFA and contribute way more to the open-source!
The program included two prizes. The winners have been announced on 26th November during the 2024 SOFA Symposium:
Organizers’ Prize Prize: 600€ |
Public Prize Prize: 400€ |
---|---|
Pasquale Ferrentino (VUB, Belgium) the SofaViscoElastic project |
Rafael Palomar (OUH, Norway) the Slicer-SOFA project |
A SOFA plugin to deal with linear visco-elastic and visco-hyperelastic constitutive models that afflict rubber-like materials, like human tissues or silicones and elastomers used in soft robotics. The algorithm and validation experiments on the soft robotics use case will be presented. These testify to the accuracy and possible application of the FEA-based control approach. | SlicerSOFA is an open-source extension that seamlessly integrates the SOFA into 3D Slicer, a versatile platform for medical image analysis and visualization. This integration facilitates the development and execution of complex biomechanical models, enhancing applications in surgical planning, medical training, and biomedical research. |
