Home › Forum › SOFA › Using SOFA › about stick and stickcontactconstraint
Hi,
i’m new in sofa, and i’m trying to build a scence where a object can be placed on a rigid surface without sliding; i choose the spring force filed(tough i don’t know how it works and whethere it is right to use in the situation); at first i set the contact response as friction cantact ,and then set the friction cofficient as large as possible, but it doesn’t work out well;so i change the contact response as stick. after the object collide, it disappear from the scence! at last i change contact as stickcontactconstraint, it seems that the object is tend to stick to the surface but hard to be controled(as well as the haptics).
so,1. i want to know what’s the difference between these cantact response. 2.how spring force field work and is it righe to use this field in this situation? 3.theoretically, a large friction cofficient can stop the sliding, but why it doesn’t work here? 4.how to maintain the status in the stickcontactconstraint case?
thanks!
Hi logo,
Thank you for your interest in SOFA!
Unfortunately I am no expert of these collision responses. From what I know, the friction is based on Signorini’s and Coulomb’s laws. But I don’t know well stick contacts.
What is sure is that using springs to models contacts, is a strong approximation since you will apply forces mimicking a contact..
Maybe somebody else would have more input about contacts in SOFA.
Best,
Hugo
