Missing libraries: STLIB and libSofaPython

Dear all,

I’m trying to use the provided examples for SoftRobots, but the needed stlib and libSofaPython libraries are missing, I can’t add them from the gui (edit > plugin manager > add).

The plugins folder in sofa directory includes already both the stlib and libSofaPython plugins.

The system I’m using: Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS 64bit.

Yes this is one way of doing it indeed! You can load all the lib***.so you need this way.

What version of SOFA and from where did you download it?

Hi,

SOFA is installed at the Home directory. It was previously downloaded there, I can’t tell which version it is. But it has SofaPython3 only,

It was downloaded on 18 August 2020.
I don not know the link unfortunately; the computer I’m using is setup long time ago by other colleagues.

Ok then, I would go for taking the latest SOFA version.
You can download it here: https://www.sofa-framework.org/download/

Once installed, You will be able to find and load the plugins using the PluginManager as suggested earlier.

I can try to provide support on older versions of SOFA, although using ROS would work (through Python) with the latest SOFA version.

Regarding the SOFA you have on your machine:
– did you compile it from the sources?
– does it have SoftRobot compiled?
in other words what do you have your build/bin and build/lib repositories?
– when you wrote “I can’t add them from the gui” what was the exact error?

Could you run the following command from the build/ directory:

and then recompile (I guess it was built using make

Hi @Hugo,

It seems that the current SOFA on my computer is using SofaPython3 not SofaPython. Since SOFA is currently compatible with Python 2.7, it will not work with the current settings.
I tried to use the gui of Cmake to disable SofaPython3 and enable SofaPython, but this does not work also.

Any ideas?

To use SofaPython, simply de-activate the SofaPython3 plugin in CMake. It should configure and generate fine.
You said it did not work? what is the error in this case?

On CMake, when disabling the SofaPython3 and enabling SofaPython, the STLIB path disappears, with the following error:

I think I’m going to install a new SOFA instead of trying to fix the current one, especially that I don’t know which version it is. Accordingly, I have downloaded the SOFA_v20.12.02_Linux from the link you provided before. But I had errors afterwards.

After extracting the content and running SOFA from the bin file, I started importing the following missing plugins: STLIB, SofaPython, and SoftRobots from the plugins folder.

The STLIB and SoftRobots are imported without errors. But when I try to add the SofaPython (not 3), the whole GUI crashes and closes with the following error:

To use SofaPython, SoftRobots, STLIB with SOFA, why not using the binary from Defrost here
They are including all these plugins.

If this is not something you want, you described above that you downloaded the v20.12 binary release of SOFA. It includes already the SofaPython plugin in plugins/SofaPython. You should therefore be able to load it with no problem. Then you will need to make sure that you compile the SoftRobots and STLIB against the SOFA binary.

Welcome on the SOFA forum and thank you for using SOFA in your soft-robotic application!

The following error :
[ERROR] [DAGSimulation(Simulation)] extension (pyscn) not handled
shows that you are trying to load a *.pyscn file while the SofaPython plugin is not loaded. Therefore, make sure you have it loaded.

Which version of SOFA are you using?

Note that some scene have the extension *.pyscn (needing SofaPython which corresponds to the old python2.7) and some have the extension *.py3scn (needing SofaPython3 which corresponds to the old python3.7).

Im using the versio 20.12.

It works, i loaded the plugin and now i can open the files, however i have another issue.
When i load a file, for example the first tutorial,i have this error.
