Hello everyone,
I’m a new user and I am initiating my experience with SOFA. I’m having problems using Modeler and I don’t know if these problems are related with my lack of experience or something else.
So, my first error using Modeler is related with “.xml extension files”. I followed your tutorial on youtube. When I tried to add a Preset to the Scene Graph no window opened and this error appeared on the console: “…/sofa/examples/Objects/MeshTetraFEM.xm Not found” (this happened for all the Presets selected).
Thus, I changed all the extension files in Objects folder to “.xm” (just to test) and it worked. I can see now the Preset window. However, when I add some Preset, different warnings are appearing:
“[WARNING] [GNode “MeshTetraFEM”] Object type “VisualNodeTransformation” creation Failed
[WARNING] [GNode “MeshTetraFEM”] Object type “CollisionNodeTransformation” creation Failed
Objects initialization failed.
[WARNING] [MeshTopology “unnamed”] Source object “@loader” NOT FOUND.
[WARNING] [MechanicalObject “unnamed”] Source object “@loader” NOT FOUND.
[WARNING] [GNode “Obstacle”] Object type “MeshLoader” creation Failed
Objects initialization failed.”How can I solve these errors and warnings?
Thanks in advance,

it looks like a bug and renaming the files is a way to bypass the bug.
For the second type of errors, can you tell us what is the preset you added?

Ok, but the xml error does not influence any other functionality of Modeler?
So, all the Presets present that warnings related to the visual and colision nodes, excluding the rigid body preset.
I can not set the colision and visual files because they are not define in the configuration window, as it is shown in the youtube tutorial. I just can set the mesh file, position, rotation and scale. However, in the rigid body preset I can set the colision and visual but not the mesh file.

18 October 2015 at 21:51 #3775FonsecaBlockedHello again,
Can anyone tell me if Modeler has some problem? Or if I’m using it correctly?
I want to test SOFA. Should I start using a different approach?
Thanks in advance

actually I don’t use the Modeler for creating the scene files.
Scene files are just xml files so you can edit them with a text editor. If you just want to test SOFA, I suggest you run the main application runSofa (should be in the folder ./bin). From here, a default scene is launched. Once you have played with it, you can open other scene files from the menu. There are examples in the folder ./examples.
If you want to create your own scene, you can write it in a text editor and test it by opening the file with runSofa.
I agree that if you have seen this feature in the youtube video, you should be able to to create a scene with the Modeler. But the video has been posted in 2010, and I assume this feature is probably not maintained anymore. Waiting that the SOFA developers fix this problem, you will go faster by editing directly the xml file.
Hope this helps,
Alex

Your tips will help me in my beginning in SOFA.
I saw that the youtube video was posted at that time and I was expecting some differences. However, when Modeler failed, I did not understand if the problem was from installation, from wrong inputs or from Modeler.
Now, I am more clarified and I will test SOFA as you suggested me.
Thank you,
