Yes, this really answer my question. According to the VTK Doc and your explanatation, I think I need to generate a new “vtkPolyData” from the binary image volume which I produced before, with the voxel center as the cell center. VTK should contains some filter to convert a binary image volume to vtkPolyData.

By the way, since this is a SOFA Forum, I am not sure, wether it is appropriate to discuss issues only related to VTK. It seems like that our research topic are somehow related to each other. Would we like to have some more communication in the further via our mail? siming.bayer@fau.de

by the way, what do you mean by “cell centers” of the image? I have generated a binary image from the mesh by using “vtkPolyDataToImageStencil”, which means my image is a standard DICOM image volume….

Thank you for this piece of code. Yes, I am actually looking for a method to interpolate the displacement on the nodes to a image volume. So “vtkProbeFilter” could be the solution.

Today, I tried another work around: 1)use VTKExport to export the “position” and “rest_position”. 2)Substract them from each other via ParaView (These two steps are exactly the same as Michl´s methode in https://www.sofa-framework.org/community/forum/section/user-forum/using-sofa/). This works well and I am able to calculate the displacement of each node. Since I am not directly interested on the displacement of certain node, but on the displacement of certain voxels on a image volume which I generated previoursly based on the mesh (before and after deformation with FEA) by using VTK, I still face the problem how to find the right correspondence between certain nodes on the mesh and certain voxel on the image. So maybe I can use your script to track some nodes directly in SOFA and combine the result with VTK. I´ll try.

Thank you for your answer. Meanwhile I have solve this problem in the same way you recommended in the other thread. I use the VTKExporter and VTK can convert the unstructured data to polygon data and then generate a image stencil, which can be use to generate a deformed binary image.

Thank you for your hints. Seems like the programm I used to convert the .stl file to .obj file changed the transformation matrix of the original .stl file. So I fix my problem finally in a more trivial way: instead of using the .obj file a the visual model, I use the .stl file as the visual model. Since the .msh file was generated from the .stl file and GMSH does not change the transformation matrix of the model by default while generate a volumetric mesh, the .msh and .stl models have the same orientation and origin, therefore aligned perfectly to each other.

Well, I used 3D slicer to generate the .stl model from a DICOM volumn. Based on this .stl file, a .msh file was created with GMSH and a .obj was converted (not with GMSH) from the .stl file. I used the .msh file as MechanicalObject and the .obj file as Visual Object. Actually I expected that the .msh file and the .obj file has the same orientateion and origin, since they were generated from the same .stl model. Obviously not… So I assume this is caused by different meshing and converting algorithm. Do you think this is possible?
And also, I am not sure if I map the objects correctly to each other in SOFA. And can I use the projection matrix directly in SOFA? How?

The reason was simply the wrong path of .msh and .obj file.

Meanwhile I have set up a Linux mashine (Ubuntu) to build the sofa applications. Still I can´t build it successfully. I get the following error on the Linux machine: /home/saber/sofa/v16.12/src/applications/sofa/gui/PickHandler.cpp:56:5:error:class ‘sofa::gui::PickHandler’ does not have any field named ‘_fbo’ _fbo(true, true, true, false, 0).
So please help me to solve my building problem. I have tried almost every OS (windows, mac os X and Ubuntu) and none of them works for me. What is wrong here with the Ubuntu machine?

Well, I tried to build Sofa on my windows PC (Windows 7 + VS 2015) again, but it produce the same error. So I tried to build it on my MacBook pro (with OS Sierra). The build was successful, but somehow I cannot run the application runSofa and got a NSImage = NULL error. Do you have any idea how to get rid of this error?

Still cannot fix the bug reported above. Does anybody has an idea how to solve this problem? I would really like to use compile the source on my machine but not only use the binary.
